Published on : Friday, November 9, 2018

A line-up of empowering events, activities and exhibitions in London mark the centenary of the women’s vote in British capital. With 2018 representing 100 years since some women were given the right to vote in the UK, the capital is honouring the anniversary with special events across iconic venues in London as part of #BehindEveryGreatCity.

Here is a list of some of the events:

Votes for Women at the Museum of London: View the Museum of London’s special film dedicated to lesser-known suffrage stories, discover a fascinating season of events and witness a new display of iconic suffragette items in the Votes for Women exhibition, which includes Emmeline Pankhurst’s hunger strike medal. This event runs until Jan 6.

Witness the monumental Millicent Fawcett statue, the first ever dedicated to a woman in Parliament Square.

Look out for works by women artists displayed across the London Tube network, including an 80m-long (262ft) work at Gloucester Road Tube station, with Art on the Underground.

Experience the music of an important figure in the women’s suffrage movement with Ethel Smyth’s Mass in D, performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. This will be held on November 15.
