Etowah blasts Crossville 52-7 in region action

CROSSVILLE — Emil Smith scored Etowah’s first three touchdowns Friday as the Blue Devils overpowered Crossville 52-7 in the Class 5A, Region 6 season opener for both teams.

Smith caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Brady Troup with 9:21 left in the first quarter, then returned a punt 50 yards for a TD at the 8:06 mark. He hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Troup with 5:52 left in the quarter.

Troup connected with Trent Davis for 72 yards and a touchdown at the 1:04 mark and tossed a 5-yard scoring pass to Derickey Wright with nine minutes remaining in the half.

Jarren Wright returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown with 8:41 left in the half and NyNy Davis returned a punt 60 yards to the end zone with 6:53 remaining.

Crossville avoided a shutout on Jay Luther’s 1-yard touchdown in the second half. Trenton Bryant’s 68-yard pass to Cam Adkins set up Luther’s run.

Etowah’s Eric Edge closed out the scoring with a 40-yard field goal.
